Overview
Most foreign nationals need a work permit to work in Canada. Employer-specific permits are tied to one employer and usually need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA exemption. Open work permits let you work for almost any employer and are available to certain spouses, graduates and other groups.
Who it's for
- Workers with a job offer from a Canadian employer
- Spouses of eligible students and workers
- Recent graduates applying for a Post-Graduation Work Permit
- People in Canada who need an extension or a change of conditions
How we help
- We identify the right category: LMIA-based, LMIA-exempt under a trade agreement, spousal open or post-graduation.
- We file extensions on time so you keep maintained status while your application is processed.
- We plan the work permit as a stepping stone, so the Canadian experience you gain counts toward permanent residence.
Program rules, fees and processing times are set by the Government of Canada and change often. Check the official IRCC information page, or ask us for advice on your situation.
